Terms of Use
SoftenerCheck publishes general educational information about residential water softeners. It is not professional plumbing, electrical or water-treatment advice, and it does not replace the manual for your specific model. Using this site means accepting the terms below.
In effect from September 3, 2026.
1. What this site provides
General information, calculators and links to manufacturers' own documentation. Everything here is written without knowledge of your equipment, your water, your plumbing or your installation. It is a starting point for your own investigation, not a diagnosis.
2. No professional relationship
Reading this site does not create a professional or advisory relationship. SoftenerCheck is not a licensed plumber, electrician, water treatment professional or laboratory, and does not hold itself out as one. See the about page for a plain statement of what we are and are not.
3. Your model's manual takes priority
Where anything here differs from the manufacturer's documentation for your exact model, follow the manufacturer. Procedures, error codes, settings, salt doses and drain requirements vary between brands and between control families within a brand. We label the scope of every procedure precisely for this reason, and you should check that the scope matches your unit before acting on anything.
5. Nothing here concerns drinking water safety
Softening addresses hardness. It is not disinfection and not contaminant removal. Nothing on this site states or implies that any water is safe to drink. For drinking water safety, consult your water utility, a certified testing laboratory, or your local health authority.
6. Calculators are estimates
The calculators apply published formulas to the numbers you enter and show every assumption they use. Their output is an estimate for planning and comparison. It is not a purchase recommendation, not a guarantee of performance, and not a substitute for a manufacturer's sizing for your installation. Results depend entirely on the accuracy of your inputs.
7. External links
Links to manufacturers' manuals and support pages are provided so you can read the primary source. We do not control those sites, are not responsible for their content or availability, and a link is not an endorsement or evidence of any relationship. Manufacturers change and remove documents without notice. If you find a broken or wrong link, please tell us.
8. Trademarks and independence
Brand and model names — including Whirlpool, Culligan, Fleck, Pentair, Clack, GE, Kenmore, WaterBoss, A. O. Smith, EcoWater and Rheem — are the trademarks of their respective owners. They appear here only to identify which equipment a document or procedure applies to, which is nominative use. SoftenerCheck is independent and is not affiliated with, endorsed by, sponsored by or connected to any of them.
9. Our content
Text, calculators, diagrams and page structure on this site are our own work. The diagrams are drawn from scratch specifically to avoid reproducing manufacturers' protected artwork. You are welcome to link to any page here. Please do not republish substantial portions as your own.
We do not host copies of anyone's manual. Manufacturers' documents remain their copyright and are linked on their own servers.
10. Accuracy and availability
We work to keep this site accurate and traceable, and every published figure is recorded against its source on the sources and corrections page. Even so, information can become outdated, manufacturers revise their guidance, and errors are possible. The site is provided as is, without warranty of any kind, and we do not guarantee it will be available or uninterrupted.
11. Limitation of liability
To the fullest extent permitted by law, SoftenerCheck is not liable for any loss or damage — including damage to equipment or property, water damage, or costs incurred — arising from use of, or reliance on, this site. You act on the information here at your own discretion and risk.
Nothing in these terms excludes or limits liability where the law does not permit it, including liability for death or personal injury caused by negligence, or for fraud.
12. Changes
These terms may be updated. The effective date at the top changes when they do, and continued use after a change means accepting the revised terms.
13. Contact
Questions about these terms, or a correction to anything on the site, can be sent through the contact page.
